75th Celebration

75th Anniversary Celebration

The Detroit Economic Club celebrated its 75th anniversary on May 20, 2010 at the Westin Book Cadillac - the site of the Club’s first meetings in 1934. The event showcased the 75-year legacy of the DEC as a top executive speaking platform and networking organization for the business and government community in Southeast Michigan.

Many of the Detroit region's most respected business and government leaders turned out for the celebration, including Executive Chairman of Ford Motor Company and DEC Chairman William Clay Ford, Jr., General Motors Chairman & CEO Ed Whitacre, and Detroit Mayor Dave Bing.

The celebration opened with a private VIP reception where the Gala Host Committee welcomed Detroit's business and political elite. More than 600 guests gathered for a strolling dinner and a brief program and fundraiser for the DEC Student Outreach Program before moving to the beautifully restored Book Cadillac Venetian Ballroom for cocktails and dancing. Entertainment was provided by the Simone Vitale band and Spyder Turner, known for his popular rendition of the 1966 Motown hit "Stand by Me".  Students selected from two colleges and 10 high schools throughout Metro Detroit served as volunteers, and were given the opportunity to interact with Gala attendees throughout the event.

Many thanks to each and every person who made the DEC’s 75th Anniversary Gala one of the most memorable events of the year!
