In barely a decade’s time, the United States has succeeded in transforming its energy outlook. Long-held assumptions of oil and natural gas scarcity and growing dependence on foreign supplies have been replaced by new abundance, enhanced supply security and even opportunities for exports. The domestic energy renaissance, combined with international market forces, have now led to dramatic reductions in oil and natural gas prices and thus in consumer costs. But unlike in the past, today’s price downturn is necessitating massive cuts in oil industry capital spending, which have had adverse follow-on impacts on other industries as well.
ConocoPhillips Chairman and CEO Ryan Lance will discuss the oil market and its price cycles, the increasingly interrelated nature of domestic energy production and the national economy, and the enduring strength of the U.S. energy renaissance.
