FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DETROIT, Mich. (May 27, 2008) – A new survey of Fortune 500 communications and marketing executives ranks the Detroit Economic Club among the most influential corporate conferences for CEOs and C-Suite Executives.  The survey also ranks the Club as the top organization of its kind – a regionally-based membership organization that offers an ongoing speaking forum.

The Burson-Marsteller Most Valued Podiums study for 2008 ranks the venues considered most influential by corporate America.  The Detroit Economic Club is listed behind only the World Economic Forum, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Fortune and the World Business Forum – all media-led or globally organized podiums.  The Detroit Economic Club is one of only four organizations to appear on both the 2008 report and the inaugural 2005 study, which measured only CEO opinion and did not include other “C-Suite” executives.  The Burson-Marsteller survey represents the only primary research on CEO and “C-Suite” executive conferences.

“The landscape for executive conferencing is changing, attracting new entrants and becoming more competitive,” said Beth Chappell, president and CEO of the Detroit Economic Club.  “We are honored to receive this recognition that demonstrates the continued regard the world’s business leaders have for our podium.  Our reputation helps the Club provide to our members one-of-a-kind access to unfiltered points of view on the business, political and social issues of the day.”

The Most Valued Podiums study quotes respondents as saying The Detroit Economic Club is “where CEOs want to speak.”  In the 2007-2008 speaking season alone, 16 CEOs addressed the Club’s members.

The Detroit Economic Club was formed in 1934 as a platform for the discussion and debate of important business, government and social issues. It is known internationally as a top speaking forum for prominent business and government leaders, who address members and their guests at the Club’s 35 meetings a season. With more than 3,000 members, the DEC is about vital issues, prominent voices, a commitment to education and inspiring leadership. The DEC is proud to have hosted every sitting U.S. President since Richard Nixon and proud to be ranked among the top speaking platforms in the world.
