DETROIT (WWJ) – As Congress tackles the budget crisis,
Michigan U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow says she doesn’t want to the
solutions to be at the expense of those who can least afford it.
“I think that it’s important that whatever we do, we are not just asking middle class families and small businesses to bear the brunt of it. As we tackle the large debt and the fact that
we need to solve this problem that it is done in a fair way,” Stabenow
said.
Senator Stabenow, speaking Monday morning to the Economic Club of Detroit, said she wants more attention paid to bills now in the Senate to help build the economy.
Stabenow said all the fussing and fighting over the budget put other important problems on the back burner.
“I’m hopeful we’re going to get back to the real issue and that’s
creating jobs, so that instead of focusing on what’s been a lot of
effort back and forth… I mean the most important thing still is the
economy and jobs,” she said.
According to a top political adviser, President Barack Obama will lay
out new plans this week to reduce the federal deficit in part by
seeking cuts to government programs for seniors and the poor.
