About This Meeting

Mark Bertolini, Chairman and CEO of Aetna, addressed the Detroit Economic Club Monday, June 5, 2017 and talked about how corporate America can bridge the gap between physical and personal capital by investing in their employees, customers and communities.

“In 1948, the World Health Organization defined health as not the absence of disease, but the physical, social and psychological well-being of an individual,” said Bertolini. “70 years later, we still have not grasped that concept. I would define health as a healthy person who is productive. A productive person is socially, spritually and economically viable, and viable people are always happy. Our economy is directly related to how we think about our health and the way we think about our opportunity.”
