DEC Young Leader Series: James Verrier

About This Meeting

DEC Young Leaders learned seven principles of leadership at a breakfast meeting with James Verrier, President & CEO of BorgWarner. The sold-out meeting was held at the BorgWarner Powertrain Technical Center in Auburn Hills on April 7, 2015.

Verrier briefly outlined BorgWarner’s history and a bit of his life before sharing his top seven leadership attributes for success. Among the seven principles, Verrier feels strongly that one of the best indicators of a successful CEO is self-awareness and an unrelenting passion to develop yourself every day.  Verrier said the most crucial trait that will differentiate a good leader from a great leader is a high level of humility.  Finally, he encouraged Young Leaders to work hard, deliver results and be humble.

A Q&A session followed with questions which included the coaching process, maintaining company vision and culture in a large international organization and work/life balance.
