About This Meeting
On Friday, October 27, Dr. Toby Cosgrove, President & CEO of Cleveland Clinic, discussed healthcare transformation in the future and how it will impact all of us. He also explained the importance of tackling three epidemics – opioids, smoking and obesity – that cost the industry large amounts of money and lives.
Cosgrove shared specifically how Cleveland Clinic created an environment for employee wellness. “It’s about education,” Cosgrove said. “Coaching and understanding the magnitude of the problem. We decided 10 years ago to take on the problems. We don’t hire smoking people. Second thing, we gave free Curves, gym and Weight Watchers to our employees. We have lost 500,000 pounds together. It’s a journey,” Cosgrove said.
Education and innovation go hand in hand, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play a significant role in managing enormous amounts of data. “Watson has been going to medical school the last three years and can give you a diagnosis,” continued Cosgrove. “We have to have help and AI is the way to do it. This will be a savior to the doctor with all the information.”
