RICHARD C. HAMPSON is State President and Head of Commercial Banking for Citizens Bank, Michigan, a commercial bank holding company headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island. As President, Hampson directs financial activities and leads the bank's community involvement initiatives. He also directs the Michigan and Chicago commercial middle market lending groups. He is a member of CFG's Executive Leadership Group, the company’s senior leadership team.
Hampson has more than 20 years of experience in all areas of Commercial Banking including small business, middle market, and large corporate. Previously, he was a Senior Vice President in Corporate Finance at PNC Bank in Troy, Michigan, with responsibility for Michigan, NW Ohio, and Canada. Before joining PNC in 2010, he was a senior leader at Comerica Bank in Detroit for 10 years. Hampson also has investment banking experience with Brown Brothers Harriman, where he worked from 1995 to 2001 in the Manhattan office.
Hampson earned a Bachelor's Degree in Finance from Boston College and an M.B.A. from Columbia University. He has his series 63 and 79 licenses.
Hampson is active in the community, serving on the Boards of the Detroit Regional Chamber, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan, the Detroit Economic Club, and Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. He is also a Trustee for Citizens Research Council. He volunteers with the Rochester Hills Soccer Program. Hampson lives in Rochester Hills, Michigan with his wife and two children.
