Detroit 67: A Lesson for Future Leaders

About This Meeting

DEC Young Leaders enjoyed a late afternoon meeting on November 14, 2017, with Ric DeVore, Executive Vice President and Regional President, Detroit & S.E. Michigan, PNC Financial Services Group, Inc.  Ric was joined during the program by Robert Bury, Executive Director & CEO of the Detroit Historical Museum and Marlowe Stoudamire, Project Director, Detroit 67. The sold-out meeting was held at the remarkable Detroit Historical Museum.

Ric shared that his personal brand includes a strong belief in early childhood education and inclusion.  He encouraged YLs to think about their personal brand and aggressively focus on activities that matter to that brand.

Bob Bury told the YLs that a leader needs to have historical context and perspectives from a variety of people to foster understanding and unlikely conversations. Marlowe Stoudamire urged YLs to find their role in the present to positively effect change today.

A spirited Q&A session followed which included a discussion on the gentrification of Detroit. Afterwards, YLs enjoyed the outstanding and provocative Detroit 67 exhibit.
