About This Meeting

During a visit with the Detroit Economic Club on Monday, Detroit Red Wings’ executives and players shared insights on the team’s approach for the remainder of the current season – and their vision for the future.

Executive Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman and Head Coach Jeff Blashill acknowledged that the current season has been difficult. However, both are impressed with the team’s professionalism and expressed confidence in the rebuild.

“From my perspective, I’m pleased with the attitude of the team and the coaching staff is working hard with the players on a lot of things,” said Yzerman. “It’s a chance for players, whether it’s an older player or a young guy just coming up, getting an opportunity, or for the coaching staff is getting a chance to do things differently. Try different systems, try different players and positions. You’re learning things and it will all benefit you later on and I think the experience, the difficulties, the struggles, you get better because of it.”

Blashill added that the team is focused on sustainable improvement moving forward in the season.

“Certainly, we learn from the previous game but really have a next game and a next shift mentality as we move on with the idea that we are getting better,” said Blashill. “As we move forward here the rest of the year, we will do that every day. We are going to try to get better as individuals and we are going to try to get better as a group. That is going to be our focus.”
