About This Meeting
DEC Young Leaders enjoyed a late afternoon meeting with Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel on March 16, 2016. The sold-out meeting was held at the new Kuhnhenn Brewing Co. in Clinton Township.
Hackel, a lifelong resident of Macomb County, told Young Leaders he never thought about politics during his almost 30 years in law enforcement before being elected the county’s first-ever executive. He counseled YL’s to be visible in the community and always be “on your game” and ready for opportunities. A wide-ranging conversation ensued which covered Hackel’s approach to government and the importance of surrounding yourself with people from whom you can learn.
A Q&A session followed which included discussions on the current political climate, challenges and rewards of Hackel’s position and issues facing his county today. Afterwards, Young Leaders continued to network while enjoying their favorite Kuhnhenn beverage.
