DEC Young Leader Series: Building with the American Spirit

About This Meeting

DEC Young Leaders enjoyed a late afternoon meeting on May 19, 2016 with Ben Maibach III, Vice Chairman & Chief Community Officer, and Ryan Maibach, President & CEO, both of Barton Malow Company. The sold-out meeting was held at Barton Malow’s Southfield headquarters.

Ryan Maibach kicked off the program titled “Building with the American Spirit”. Ryan taught YLs the importance of clarity and purpose in a company’s everyday existence and how people, projects and community should be woven into the fabric of every business decision.

Ben Maibach took a deeper dive into the community aspect of their mission. He shared how his company measures, reports and communicates their community activities and encouraged YL’s to get involved in memory-making company efforts.

A robust Q&A session followed which included discussions on creating a company culture where people and employees are priority one and how to reconcile high performers who might not buy into the culture. Afterwards, YLs enjoyed touring the sleek, new Innovation Center and continued conversations with Ben and Ryan.
