About This Meeting

U.S. Republican Presidential Candidate Donald J. Trump addressed the Detroit Economic Club Monday August 8, 2016, unveiling his proposed economic plan and promising that Detroit, who was once the “economic envy of the world,” will be the Motor City that “will come roaring back.”

Trump introduced his plan, highlighting measures to overhaul the tax system, increase infrastructure budget, lift restrictions on energy reform and deregulate business. He also emphasized the need to renegotiate U.S. trade agreements. “Our total trade deficit in trade goods hit $800 billion last year,” stated Trump. “This is a strike at the heart of Michigan. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, before NAFTA went into effect, there were 285,000 auto workers in Michigan. Today, that number is only 160,000 auto workers.”
