About This Meeting
Mark Thompson, President & CEO of The New York Times, spoke to the Detroit Economic Club on Monday, December 12th, 2016, and addressed changes in the media, including how journalists, and readers, can combat fake news.
“We should place our trust in the community (media consumers),” said Thompson. “Using Mark Zuckerberg’s wording from a recent Facebook post, it should be the community that sorts out the fake from the real. One can hope that Zuckerberg’s faith in that community will ultimately be proved right, and yet one can still be alarmed at the fix which we presently find ourselves.”
