Guskiewicz\, Ph.D.\, is a neuroscientist and academic leader who assumed the presidency of Michigan State University on March 4\, 2024. \nFollowing his arrival at MSU\, Guskiewicz embarked on a 48-plus-stop listening and learning tour of the university’s colleges and administrative units. The tour was a key component of his work to help identify an institutional “true north” that will lead MSU to provide the best education and workplace culture for Spartans and bold service to the public in the land-grant tradition. \nHe previously served as chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a nationally recognized expert on sport-related concussions. His research team’s groundbreaking work influenced concussion guidelines in the NFL and NCAA. \nIn 2011\, Guskiewicz received the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship for his innovative work on the diagnosis\, treatment and prevention of sport-related concussions. In 2013\, Time magazine named him a Game Changer\, one of 18 “innovators and problem-solvers that are inspiring change in America.” \nGuskiewicz earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from West Chester University\, a master’s in exercise physiology/athletic training from the University of Pittsburgh and a doctorate in sports medicine from the University of Virginia. \n \n \n	\n\n \n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n VIEW BIO\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n J Batt \n \n \n \n Vice President & Director of AthleticsMichigan State University \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n BIO\n \n \n J Batt\nVice President & Director of AthleticsMichigan State University \n\nJ Batt was named Vice President and Director of Athletics at Michigan State in June 2025. In a little more than two and a half years under Batt’s direction\, the institution broke records in athletic fundraising\, renovated and built facilities\, enhanced the gameday experiences for fans\, and spearheaded corporate sponsorships to provide transformative revenue\, all while experiencing success on the field of play. Before his time at Georgia Tech\, Batt was executive deputy director of athletics\, chief operating officer and chief revenue officer at Alabama from 2017-22.
