About This Meeting
Richard Edelman, President & CEO of Edelman, addressed the Detroit Economic Club Wednesday, April 19, 2017 and talked about how businesses can build trust with the public and their employees.
“Business has no choice but to stand up here,” said Edelman. “My big message to you is that business is the last retaining wall in the tsunami. If you assume that there have been four waves of the tsunami – 2008, then globalization, automation and finally this implosion in the belief of the media – business is the last retaining wall. In our data, which is consistent throughout the world, business is the most trusted group. This does not necessarily conclude that the system is broken. Half think it is broken, a third are not sure, 15% think the system works and another ¾ think that businesses can make money and do great things for society. It is a really important time for businesses to stand up.”
