What Will it Take to Make Michigan a Top 10 State?

Over the past dozen years, Business Leaders for Michigan, the state’s business roundtable, has been working collaboratively with stakeholders to increase Michigan’s ability to compete nationally and globally for jobs and economic growth. Its recently released benchmark report compares Michigan’s performance against the Top 10 states and shows we’ve made significant gains since the Great Recession – including in the past year – moving from 49th to 29th. However, Michigan still struggles to grow faster than other states.

As the state continues to see economic disruptions from the pandemic, talent shortages and shifts in our economy, including to vehicle electrification and advanced mobility, it’s even more critical that we examine Michigan’s competitiveness and make sure that in the decades ahead we focus on investments and actions that drive growth.
